One of the better teams ever to miss the playoffs

9-8 but look at those narrow losses all to other division winners and/or playoff teams

35-38 Eagles
24-28 Vikings
45-48 Seahawks
27-31 Dolphins
25-28 Bills

Totally agree. What an effort last night. They are as good or better than quite a few playoff teams that made it. And fun to watch. They compete.

14 teams make the playoffs and 18 don't. Ridiculous and watered - down to the max.

Nowhere near as bad as baseball, basketball and football
Imagine playing 162 games and still letting in 12 teams lol
I will say that sometimes team evolve over time and can be the as good as a playoff team but not make it so it does allow for those teams to get in, It is also ridiculous playing that many and givng teams who are dominant little to no advantage
But that makes it more entertaining I guess to give the dog a chance

Starting 1-6 isn't playoff worthy. Like the Steelers this year.

Being from Pittsburgh and listening to the talk shows blaming the Jets, Refs and Flacco for not winning to get the Steelers in.

The only thing I have to say about both teams who were playing like playoff teams towards the end of the season is..........they both should have won 1 more game and this discussion wouldn't be happening.

Lions will be in the playoffs next year. And Pickett and the Steelers will win another super bowl within 3 years

I had no idea that's how they started the season.

Those games could have gone either way and even if they win just 3 of those 5 they would be 12-5. Impressive season they have turned it around.

There much maligned defense did contain the Packers both games.

Can't say I feel too bad for a team missing when half the conference gets in, especially in the NFC.

Don't lose at home to the Seahawks

Washington with Chase Young back was the team that I actually thought could make a run if they could just keep themselves from starting Wentz. What did Heineke do to lose the job? Suck vs the 9ers? Who cares.

That whole team grew as the season progressed. I heard over and over that Coach Campbell was a rah rah clown. Bullshit. That guy deserves coach of the year.

He inherited a team who won 5 games in 2020. Didn't win a game until the twelfth game last year. When they proceeded to win 3 of their last 6. Then went on this season to be right in all but two games with a QB who was also roundly dissed in virtually all football circles.

And knocked Aaron Rogers and the Pack in Lambeau right out of the Playoffs last night with a come from behind gem.

Tremendous coaching. How good? They will be favored to win the NFC North next year.

Congrats Lions. You FAR exceeded expectations.

Right now, Detroit is better than some teams that made it but that is the way it goes with that bad start.
There are still many that say Detroit needs a QB, WTF? Goff is fine.

Steelers easily could've caused some damage this year , the Watt injury hurt big time. Maybe starting the season with Pickett would've been a better move.

Detriot was good against these other teams this season. But truthfully in a normal year that is a 6-11 team.

The NFC is trash. The team most likely to come out of the conference(san fran) is playing a 3rd string qb. Really all that needs to be said...

The 3 pro bowl qbs for NFC i believe were Kirk Cousins, Geno Smith and Jalen Hurts. I mean good lord. Who would have ever saw that coming...

They had a good year but I don’t think he should get COY (and he won’t)

For one, I’d say DaBoll did more with less than him in a tougher division. And 2, in general I almost always wanna see it go to a coach that took a team to 11+ wins. It is Shanahan time to win it (full disclosure I have money on him)

Nice end of season run for lions but the entire nfl is designed for teams to be .500, hard to get too excited over 9-8, especially with their schedule. You would need a lot less talent than they have for me to think a 9-8 record deserves it. Not like Goff never did anything in the league before this.

They’ll probably give it to DaBoll given that roster. Shanahan has too much talent, easy to snub

And weren’t the Lions expected by a lot of people to be around .500?

Shanahan 6-0 with 3rd string QB, every single key guy on their offense missed time this year, won 10 straight to close season. And then there’s just he’s arguably the best offensive coach of this generation the way he’s competing year after year with these QBs.

DaBoll could be the Pats offensive coordinator in 3 years, who knows. Winning 9 games when you’re supposed to win 7 maybe impresses the media a lot more than it impresses me.
